“I’d been living abroad for some years but moved back into sheltered accommodation in Warwickshire after my marriage broke down, I suffered from a stroke and was diagnosed with cancer.

“Warwick District Council’s Sustaining Tenancies Team helped me to make a claim for the right benefits and, once this was sorted, helped me to furnish my home through the Resettlement Scheme.

“The Team made a claim for a Personal Independence Payment for me, as they thought I’d be entitled to some extra help because of my ongoing health conditions.

“The claim was refused at first so the Team appealed and some months later, following a successful tribunal hearing, I received a backdated payment of £4,280 and got an extra income of £82.10 per week.”
