New limb restriction care services launched

Local NHS providers and WCC, through the Warwickshire Cares Better Together programme, are working together to help people with limb restrictions across Warwickshire receive care in the most appropriate setting.

Two new services have been launched:

  • Short-term (time limited) support to return home, for people with upper limb restrictions such as a cast (Plaster of Paris) or brace. This pathway commenced from Monday 22 July.
  • Care home beds commissioned for people with lower limb restriction, that are non-weight bearing, for a period of time and unsafe to return home directly from hospital.

The additional beds for lower limb restriction are currently being agreed and more information about these will be shared when confirmed.

Any healthcare professional can refer to the service(s). Each acute provider has been sent a separate communication with the referral method, consent and patient information in order to cascade to relevant colleagues within their organisation.

At South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, the complex discharge team will complete referrals at the acute site for the upper limb pathway.

For more information about any of these services, contact Andrew Hateley, Community Clinical Service Manager, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust  (07823 532979 or Andrew.Hateley@swft.nhs.uk) or Caroline Cody, Complex Discharge Team & D2A P3 Manager, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (01926 495321 ext 407 or Caroline.Cody@swft.nhs.uk).
